Every student has questions about their future. Most don’t have a clear picture of what they want to become. Many ask questions like – “Am I taking the right courses?”, “Do I really need this class?” or “What should I do when I finish High School?” They have ambition to attain a good career and be happy, but are not quite sure how to achieve these goals.
This is where Higher Grade Learning Centre’s Career Prep 101 steps in. Career Prep 101 is an interactive program designed to help students realize who they are and who they what to become. Developed with three modules, students will be motivated and inspired to achieve their goals, and be enabled to develop concrete steps to achieve their life and career goals.
Section One is titled, “Where am I at?” and guides students through various self-assessment and introspection activities. These activities are specifically designed for high school aged students and will help them develop their self-awareness.
Section Two entitled, “Where do I want to go?” details goal setting, goal development, and planning techniques. Activities help students identify with their goals and foster a deeper understanding.
Section Three answers, “How do I get there?” by showing students steps they can take now to become closer to achieving their goals. In this section, students learn about overcoming obstacles, short-term goal realization and implementing their plans.
To provide students with an enhanced skillset, Career Prep 101 includes three 10-hour long practicums, which will provide students a better understanding and exposure to their future career choices. Higher Grade Learning Centre will take the initiative to provide students with work placements. By the end of the program, each student will have a concrete career plan or aptly named, a map to their success that will include courses to take before enrolling in their chosen college or university.
***Please note that prior to students starting their practicum – prospective employers will undergo a criminal record check.
